Major expansion at Chubby Chick
A third hatchery, equipped with Petersime AirStreamer™ incubators using Bio-Response Incubation™ technology, is being constructed to increase the current 2 million setting capacity with an additional 1.4 million setting capacity.
What started back in 1955 in a garage somewhere in Potchefstroom (South Africa), has grown to become one of South Africa’s major poultry producers. The family run operation - headed by Mr. John Fourie, assisted by his sons Deon and Jonathan, Mr. Jaco van den Bergh and Mr. Anver Carrim - comprises rearing farms, laying farms, hatcheries, broiler farms - of which some are free-range farms – a rendering plant and slaughter plants. As production isn’t a goal on itself, Chubby Chick focused on having full control of every aspect in the production cycle. They are convinced this is the only way to guarantee the ever increasing quality requirements of their customers.
For that reason, all Chubby Chick farming takes place on company-owned farms and no part of the process is contracted out.
Also what the hatchery is concerned, Chubby Chick has been a front runner in the industry. With the construction of their first hatchery 22 years ago, they became the trendsetter in the South African poultry industry. With the construction of a second hatchery 11 years later, Chubby Chick became the first user of the fully programmable Vision controls and of Petersime’s Cleanway hatchers.
Today, a third hatchery is being constructed to increase the current 2 million setting capacity with an additional 1.4 million setting capacity.
For this new hatchery, Chubby Chick opted for Petersime AirStreamer™ incubators with Bio-Response technology. As Deon Fourie is saying: ”Production isn’t a goal in itself; To remain competitive we need to be able to produce the quality our customers require at the lowest cost. We at Chubby Chick are confident that with the unique Petersime Bio-Response technologies, the ongoing investments in R&D at Petersime, together with the superb guidance and support from Petersime and their local representative 'Spartan Equipment', we can achieve this goal.”
