2007 was yet another exceptional year at Petersime, with turnover reaching a record high, doubling 2004 levels. With such explosive growth, the company has had to rise to a number of new challenges, such as shipping huge volumes of merchandise.

Petersime’s Shipping Department is a whirlwind of activity, with 25 manual labourers and three office assistants. The team works in two shifts, from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., plus Saturdays in case of emergency. In 2007, no less than 3,500 shipments/consignments were processed, including over 1,000 truck or container freights with incubators, hatchery accessories and air handling units. The department has even been known to pick, wrap, pack and ship the occasional complete hatchery building.

An average of four trucks or containers leave the company’s premises on a daily basis. Most shipments are by land or by sea. Air freight is a less frequent option and is mainly used for small consignments or emergency situations.

Rudy Polet, Shipping Department Manager: “We deal with a huge variety of orders and shipping needs. Some orders fit in a small container, while others require 20 trucks or containers. Last week I had to plan 17 trucks, and that was just for one single order for the Erpiliç Hatchery in Turkey.”

The company raises the bar high when it comes to customer service, and one of its objectives is to dispatch spare parts orders within 48 hours. In 2007, 80.6% of spare parts were shipped within 24 hours and 97.2% within 48 hours. Petersime’s Service Station and Shipping team have already shifted into high gear, ready to outdo themselves in 2008.
