Broiler hatchery Emirates National Poultry Farms doubles in size

Because of rewarding previous experiences with Petersime, Emirates National Poultry Farms, producer of fresh chicken meat under the brand name of Al Khazna, chose to collaborate with Petersime to further expand its existing broiler hatchery. The project included the installation of 14 single-stage BioStreamer™ 12S incubators and 9 BioStreamer™ 4H hatchers, as well as a full HVAC system

“Petersime is our reliable partner for hatchery projects, as already proven in previous collaborations: great after-sales service on one hand; reliable technology on the other hand. The machines are easy to use, yet deliver a strong performance and high chick quality,” Dr Basem Mukbil, Head of Farms at Emirates National Poultry Farms, expressed his satisfaction. “Moreover, the expansion project was executed smoothly thanks to Petersime’s professional approach.”

Emirates National Poultry Farms was founded in Al Ain, a city in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, in 2001. Seven years later, multi food products manufacturer IFFCO Group invested in the company. Since its opening, the hatchery steadily grew its setting capacity from 3 million to 12 million eggs per year. Finally, last year’s expansion project has more than doubled that number to a current total of 26 million eggs per year.

The first hatch results are promising: Recent figures show 2% more hatches and better chick quality since the expanded hatchery’s implementation at the end of 2019.

Poultry production in UAE faces big challenges

One of Emirates National Poultry Farms’ motivations for the expansion is to support individual farmers in the United Arab Emirates as they have been struggling to develop their business to the same extent their larger competitors have.

Challenges such as biosecurity risks, high feed and production costs, and a strong competition from international companies have set back the country’s domestic poultry production in the past few years. In the Abu Dhabi area, however, the poultry industry has improved greatly, thanks in part to government subsidies and a beneficial regional legislation.

Since approximately 35% of the market share is still covered by individual farmers, Emirates National Poultry Farms strives to be a reliable domestic supplier of high-quality day-old chicks by raising its production capacity and using the most advanced incubation technology.
